1. Metal Can Automatically Weld in Space (Cold Welding)
If two pieces of the same metal touch each other in the vacuum of space, they will permanently bond and fuse together. This incredible phenomenon is known as Cold Welding.
- Why it happens: On Earth, our atmosphere creates a layer of oxidation (air/water layer) on metals, which prevents them from fusing. In space, there is no air or oxygen, so the atoms of one piece of metal cannot tell that they are separate from the other piece, causing them to join instantly.
2. A Day on Venus is Longer Than Its Year
Venus is one of the strangest planets in our solar system. It takes Venus about 243 Earth days to rotate just once on its own axis (which is one day on Venus). However, it only takes Venus 225 Earth days to travel all the way around the Sun (which is one year).
- The Reality: This means that a single day on Venus is literally longer than a whole year on Venus!
3. Honey Never Spoils (It Can Last for Thousands of Years)
Archaeologists exploring ancient Egyptian tombs have often found pots of honey that are over 3,000 years old—and the craziest part? It is still perfectly edible!
- Why it happens: Honey has extremely low moisture content and high acidity. This unique combination makes it impossible for bacteria or microorganisms to grow in it, meaning it can technically last forever if kept sealed.
